| Relationships
Note: There's not necessarily dialogue between Terra and all the other characters, but it's improbable that they never interacted throughout their entire quest, so a lot of this is based off of speculation and my personal interpretations of characters.

 | Locke Cole, a "treasure hunter", and Terra Branford have a very close relationship. He was among the first to interact with her, in addition to helping save her life. From this, they bond, and that only strengthens as the game progresses. Locke treats her almost like a little sister - with much fondness and concern for her well-being. He is quick to overcome the shock of her true past, and cares for her regardless. Locke seems especially devoted due to the loss of his love Rachel, and so fully commits himself to making sure he will not lose either Terra or Celes. Terra in turn relies on Locke more than she does on the others, yet uses the closeness and stability of this relationship to reaffirm her power and independent life. |
| Edgar Roni Figario, king of Figaro Castle, takes an immediate liking to Terra in a far more physical way than Locke. Despite her confused and naive state, Edgar hits on her right off the bat. Terra rejects him, unsure what exactly is going on, and though he is disappointed, he, like Locke, swears to protect her. Once Terra becomes more aware of herself and the fight they are involved in, she and Edgar become good friends, if not a bit on the teasing side. | |
 | Sabin Rene Figaro is Edgar's twin brother and a powerful martial arts fighter. Though Terra early on makes the mistake of saying he looks like a bodybuilder, they become friends. It is likely that they were able to relate to each other as the strongest powers in the group, physically for Sabin and magically for Terra. Both also have been alone, although Terra did not willingly or knowingly isolate herself. Regardless, both can relate to each other about learning to operate in a group dynamic and to control their own powers. |
| Shadow, a solitary and mysterious ninja, does not become close to anyone in the game besides his dog, Interceptor. It is unfortunate that he keeps himself so closed off, as he and Terra could have been good for each other. They both have dark and painful pasts, and confiding in someone with similar experiences might have helped them both move on. There is one moment where he offers Terra advice, but he never really opens up. As it is, Shadow resigns himself to loneliness and eventual death, while Terra keeps a bright spark of hope and is able to progress in life. | |
 | Celes Chere was also involved with the empire at one point, though while Terra was an unaware slave, Celes was a genetically engineered MagiTek Knight. The engineering gave her magical abilities, giving her an immediate connection with Terra due to their rare powers. Celes and Terra share a fiery hatred for the empire that used them so callously. However, both deal with their new life in different ways - while Terra searches for a place where she truly belongs, Celes just wants to find people who will not hate her for her past. |
| Cyan Garamond lost his family to Kefka's evil attacks, and so he hates the empire as much as Terra and Celes do. His noble stature may be offputting, but Terra understands his loyalty to the memory of his family. They are never particularly close, especially since Cyan seems afraid of her powers, but they come to understand each other and are good allies in the battle against Kefka. | |
 | Gau is an abandoned child from the Veldt, wild but friendly. Though he immediately latches onto Cyan, it's possible that he had a close relationship with Terra as well. They are both are lost, and knowing Terra's fondness for children, she would be likely to take him in and care for him like an older sibling would. They can share their feeling of abandonment with one another, yet have fun during the happy times as well. |
| Setzer Gabbiani is a sarcastic gambler with a good heart and a fondness of pretty women. He and Terra are vastly different personality-wise, but this is what lead to their friendship. Terra helps keep Setzer grounded and serious when necessary, whereas Setzer gives her something to smile about with his snarky commentary. They have a low-key, understated relationship, but a strong one nonetheless, and can count on each other no matter the situation. | |
 | Mog is a loveable moogle who frequently dances. Terra is particularly close to him, as he, along with other moogles and Locke, helped to protect her when she was first awakening. Mog is adorable yet savvy - a winning combination. How could anyone not be enamored with him? Terra is no exception. He's quick-witted and useful in tough situations, and still nice enough for her to want to be around the rest of the time. |
| Strago Magus is at some points afraid of Terra's powers, but recognizes how difficult it is to have the gift of magic, and so is sympathetic towards her. She gives him the respect he deserves, and he offers her the understanding she needs. They have an almost familial relationship, especially when Relm is thrown into the mix. Strago provides Terra with the parental figure she has been deprived of, and together they are a force to be reckoned with. | |
 | Relm Arrowny is a tough and spunky young girl, raised by her grandfather Strago. She and Terra have an immediate bond. Having had only a grandfather in her life, Relm looks at Terra as someone to be listened to, but not someone so old as to not understand how a kid feels. Correspondingly, Terra cares for Relm and protects her when necessary, but does not coddle her or treat her as if she is incapable of defending herself. They compliment each other perfectly. |
| Umaro is a yeti, and listens only to Mog. Since she gets along with Mog, it is likely that Terra is friendly with Umaro as well, but given his wild nature, it is unlikely that they're particularly close. | |
 | Gogo is a mimic, and as such, does not have a distinct personality. He likely admires Terra's skills, especially since he has the good fortune of being able to now copy them, but I doubt their relationship goes any deeper than that. |
| General Leo can relate to Terra's experience being used by the military, and is a great friend to her. When she is curious about what love is, he is there to comfort her and tell her that she'll experience it someday. Granted, Locke and Shadow relate similar messages to her, but neither hit as close to home with her as Leo does. Unfortunately, their time together is cut short, and Terra is left wondering about what could have been and mourning the loss of a new friend. | |
 | Duane and Katarin are the eldest of the children Terra takes in, and have a baby of their own! It is through them and the other orphans that Terra learns what love really is, and she becomes an adoptive mother to them all. When the time comes for her to fight once more, the children all pray for her to come back safely, and she swears to succeed, if for no other reason then for their sakes. Suddenly, when she knows the love of a family, Terra discovers just why the world is worth saving. |
| Maduin and Madonna are Terra's parents. She was kidnapped by the empire for her abilities, and so was robbed of the chance to really know them. Terra does share a few brief moments with Maduin, enough for him to convey his love. She was denied the chance to know the two people who loved her more than any others could, and though that wounds her, the faint remembrance of her parents' love is enough to comfort her. | |
 | There is no greater enemy than Kefka. He is the antithesis of Terra - cold, powerhungry, and devoid of all affection. He seeks to stop all human emotion, while Terra wants to discover these emotions for herself. He used her for her power, and once she is freed, he desires nothing more than to destroy her and the world she is learning to love. Once she realizes the beauty of life, she swears to put a stop to his plans, and even with him as powerful as he is, she's strong enough to attempt it. |
